Processes claims for all Social Security programs. Social Security provides continuing income to workers and their families in the case of retirement, disability or death. Social Security benefits are based on the worker's wages and may be paid to the worker or the worker's dependents or survivors. Medicare is the federal health insurance program for individuals (age 65 or over) and some individuals (64 or under) who are disabled or have chronic kidney disease. Individuals in need of cash and who are age 65 or over or who are blind or disabled, including blind and disabled children, may apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI recipients automatically quality for Medi-Cal. Accepts applications for original and duplicate Social Security cards. Applications for all benefits may be made in person or, in some cases by mail or phone, and it is necessary to call the Teleservice Center (800-772-1213) first for information about qualifications and the documents which must be submitted with the application. Walk in applicants are seen on a first come, first served basis.
