Veterans' victory ride slated

The Northern New York-Fort Drum Chapter of the Association of the United States Army is partnering with the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair to present its first Veterans' Ride to Victory on Aug. 4. The bike rally will begin at the Lowville Elks Club with kickstands up at noon. The event will be a poker run with a cash prize for the best hand. Participants must be at the start in order to participate in the poker play.
The route will take riders into the western Adirondacks to Sevey's Corners, where they will loop back to Potsdam along Route 56 culminating at the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair, Gouverneur.Professional recording artists Confederate Railroad will be performing that evening.
The cost to attend is $50 for a rider with a passenger, which includes the ride, admission to the fair and concert, and a 2018 Vet Ride patch. The fee is $25 for each rider and passenger who do not wish to attend the concert. For a single rider, including the concert, the fee is $30, and admission is $15 for the concert only. Proceeds from the event will support the NNY-Fort Drum chapter of the Association of the United States Army and its Fallen and Wounded Soldier Fund.
The NNY-Fort Drum Chapter of AUSA has over 900 members and provides programs and services in support of soldiers, families, veterans, National Guard and Reserve. The Fallen and Wounded Soldier Fund assists veterans and their family members during times of crisis.
Types of past assistance have included funeral and travel expenses for family members, a suit for a parent to wear to a soldier's funeral, and helping with improvements to a disabled veteran's home.
